RIG Resources - your one-stop shop for everything you need to know about being a radio indie
Health & Safety Resources
Since June 2006 the BBC has required all indies to submit Health & Saftey information before allowing them onto the supplier lists. The process is:
* Indie fills in a Health & Safety Questionnaire and submits to the BBC Business Affairs team
* If the BBC considers the information incomplete or insufficient the indie will be contacted and asked for further information
* Once accepted the indie's H&S information is held on file. Every year the indie will be asked to clarify the current company situation (e.g. whether any H&S incidents have occured, or if the company has increased/decreased in size)
Health & Safety, and the well-being of everyone working in radio production should always be taken seriously and RIG recommends to all of its members that, regardless of company size or experience, they undertake regular H&S assessments. RIG is working with various H&S partners to create radio-specific guidelines.
In the meantime, the following documents are designed to help indies through the BBC H&S process. If you require H&S advice, please note that neither RIG nor the BBC can give it. However, RIG is happy to recommend the the following H&S consultants, who will be happy to offer RIG members discounts on their services:
